I have been playing around with different ways to make puffy pom balls from coffee filters in preparation for Felicity's Easter Tea Party and her upcoming birthday party.
Today I will share the " DIY how to" on all the ways I have made them from the quickest easiest way to the most time consuming method.
With all of these methods you could also use crepe paper or tissue paper instead of the filters.
Here is method one....
Stack together a bunch of dyed coffee filters and cut a small slight through the center of them and thread a piece of ribbon or twin through it.
Then tie a large knot so that your filters can hang on the ribbon without sliding off.
Scrunch up your paper and shape it folded up on top, down on bottom and toward the center in the middle to make it into the shape of a ball.
Here is the finished product...
Here is the second method....
Fold your filters in half and layer them with the open sides all facing different directions. As your stack them thread the ribbon through the center of your ball as was done in the first method.
Keep stacking until it is 1-2 inches thick. It will look like this...
Scrunch the paper around into a ball as was done in the first method.
The finished product in this method looks better than the ball in the first method but it takes a little big longer to do and is just a bit more difficult.
Flower Ball Methods
The last two methods are way more time consuming than the first methods because you have to make a bunch of individual flowers to do these. To see how to make the coffee filter flowers Click Here.
For this first flower method you will stick a straight pin through the center of each flower.
Then put a big of glue on the straight pin and push it into a foam ball. Do all your flowers until the ball is covered.
Use a straight pin with glue to attach a ribbon or twine to the foam to hang the ball from.
I think that is definitely the prettiest method but it takes quite a while to do.
Here is the last flower ball method:
Take all of your coffee filter flowers and gather them all up into the shape of a ball using the pipe filters that you made the flowers with and twist the filters together and around eachother until you have a ball.
This ball looks pretty from the bottom and sides but if you look at the top the center will be exposed so you can only do it this way if the balls will be hung up high. To hang them just tie your ribbon or whatever you're using to the pipe filters.
And that's it - You can try all the methods and see what works best for you! I'm doing a couple in each style for her parties.
